Every child has a right to a Free and Appropriate education. For students with disabilities, this may look different than it does for other children. Special education is specially designed instruction, at no cost to parents, planned to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability. Services may include instruction conducted in the regular classroom, in special classes or schools, in the home, or in hospitals and institutions.

If you feel your child is struggling, please contact your child's teacher. Response to Intervention is a process through which a team helps the classroom teacher develop and implement interventions that can be delivered right in the classroom. This is often a great first step in determining your student's needs. 

Child Find is the process of locating, evaluating, and identifying children with disabilities who may be in need of special education and related services. The Triad Local School District is committed to the location, identification and provision of a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), for all children between the ages of 3 and 22, having disabilities. Location and referral of such children may be initiated by anyone with knowledge of the child and suspecting the child may have a disability.

We schedule multiple free developmental screenings per year for preschool aged children to fulfill the Child Find Law. These screenings assess academic/cognitive skills, fine motor and gross motor skills, and speech and language skills. The results of the screening will be discussed with you, and if a disability is suspected, further evaluation will be completed, again free of charge.
