The Unexpected Loss of a Triad Student
News from Superintendent Hoffman Important

Good Morning!  I wanted to give you a few important announcements.  I would first like to remind everyone that the last day of school is May 27th.  For seniors, the last day is tomorrow, May 21st.  I am excited to tell you that we have been approved to hold an outdoor face-to-tace graduation ceremony.  We will hold the ceremony on Sunday, May 31st starting at 2 pm at the Triad High School student parking lots.  The graduation is limited to two cars per graduate but everyone can help us celebrate the Triad class of 2020 by taking part in a parade that will begin at the high school then go to Woodstock, North Lewisburg, Mingo, and Cable immediately following graduation.  We hope you can join us to celebrate this great group of graduates.  Another exciting announcement is that we will be serving meals throughout the month of June.  All meal pick up starting on June 4th will be at the High School. Meals are for all students 18 and under so please feel free to use this to help your family for another month.  This week we will be adding free/reduced lunch forms to all meal bags.  We understand that not everyone will want to fill these out but wanted to let you know that applying to receive free and or reduced lunches is confidential and if you qualify student fees will also be waived.  We are in a very different time right now and our goal is to help everyone as much as we can.  The forms from this week can be returned at meal pick up next week or dropped off in a small black mailbox right outside of my office which is beside the elementary.  Thank you for all that you have done to help us end the year with success.  We know it has been a tough few months and we truly appreciate each and every one of you.

SENIORS!!

SENIORS: a Google Survey has been sent by Mr. Huffman to your school email account regarding the options for your graduation ceremony.  Please respond by noon tomorrow, Friday, May 1st.

REMINDER TO 7TH GRADE PARENTS
Summer: A GREAT Time to Create Healthy Habits in Reading!

Researchers have found that kids who were raised with a regular routine of listening to and reading bedtime stories have a higher than average rate of childhood literacy. A bedtime reading routine is also a great way to establish healthy sleep habits early and reinforce them consistently--and kids with great sleep habits are more likely to retain what they’ve learned in school, grasp new material quickly, and think through problems creatively.

Revised Semester Exam Schedule for Triad High School
January is School Board Appreciation Month! January is School Board Appreciation Month!

Say "thanks!" to Triad School Board Members!

Boards of education are a mature and tested institution in Ohio. School board members make policy; approve contracts with employees; choose curriculum; adopt budgets; and select a superintendent, treasurer and business manager to administer the district. They do all these tasks with the emphasis on what's best for the children they serve.

Being an effective school board member is no easy task, particularly in today's climate of change and challenge. School board members need to be knowledgeable about many complex education and social issues, and carry out initiatives and directives from both federal and state governments. To face these demands of governing our public schools, they give countless hours of personal time.

HS Art Student of the Month - January HS Art Student of the Month - January

As we begin the new year, it is my pleasure to announce that we have once again selected Chasity Curton as Triad’s leading art representative for the month of January! There is no student who has demonstrated greater effort and talent than Chasity. She is Triad’s lead senior in the art program and one of the very few to have reached such a level of professional skill.

Chasity is our sole art level 4 senior. She is clearly taking her place among some of the best artists produced at Triad. Chasity is truly a passionate artist demonstrating the finest qualities in refinement, discipline, technique and expectation. I believe she is destined for greatness!

I am proud to call Chasity my student, as she is not just a great artist but a stellar person of positive character! Chasity brings out the best in her classmates. She recently earned a $42,000 scholarship to attend the prestigious Chicago School of Art and a $74,000 scholarship from Augsburg University to come and major in art there. Wow! Best of luck to this super young lady!

The Champaign County Bicentennial Committee, with the help of many donors, installed four markers; one each at Woodstock, Cable, Urbana, and St. Paris.
There will be a brief memorial dedication at Woodstock at 4 pm, Cable at 5 pm, Urbana at 6 pm, and St. Paris at 7 pm at each marker site except at St. Paris.  The St. Paris location will be at 135 West Main St., at the Municipal Building. The exact locations for the other three are available at the www.OhioHistoryConnection.org and the chamber website at www.ChampaignOhio.com.  There are alternate nearby sites available in case of bad weather.
Nationally known author, Scott Trostel, who wrote the books The Lincoln Funeral Train and The Lincoln Inaugural Train, visitors will be available to buy autographed books.
At these ceremonies will include local veterans and local residents of all ages.

Painting the Town! Painting the Town!

Members of the Triad Middle School Humanities Group were out painting the town earlier this month.  Several area businesses allowed the students to come in and share their talents by painting festive images in their windows.  Perhaps you have seen them as you drive through town.  Special thanks to our artists: Trinity Banda, Brianna Eaton, Bailey Perry, Maddie Stokes, and Danica Seifert.
Also, a very special thank you to our local business owners of: 559 Diner, Champaign Reality, Clayton Tire, and Security National Bank.

Sunday night after the holiday parade in North Lewisburg, Mr. Waibel and a group of his 6th grade choir students went caroling through the town spreading Christmas cheer for the holidays.  Immediately following, the students were invited to the town library for hot cocoa and homemade cookies provided by Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Woodruff of the Triad Middle School Humanities Group.  Then by surprise, the kind proprietors of Cardinal's Pizza invited the singing troupe back for pizza and pop as well.  Thanks to all who made the event possible.

“Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource.”
John F. Kennedy

"Teachers – the people who educate us and give us the vital knowledge which we need to live our lives. They encourage, support, discipline and prepare us for the road ahead and now it’s time for us to show them our appreciation. Teacher Appreciation Week begins on the 7th until the 11th of May 2012, which will be the perfect opportunity for us to show teachers how thankful we are for their support."

Our board members take their responsibility to the Triad District seriously.  Each one has or has had students attend this district and their committment to Triad is seen in the countless hours they spend promoting, supporting and recognizing the students and staff of the district as well as the time they put in to approve policies, contracts and budgets that work for the benefit of Triad School District. Each one plays an active role in leading the way for education and we encourage the Triad communities to show their support for these special individuals during the month of January.

Ellie House

It is my pleasure to announce that Miss Ellie House has been selected as “Artist of the Month” for March! Ellie is new to the high school this year as a junior but she seems to be right in step with her advanced level class. She brings a super positive attitude to the classroom and is always enjoyable to work with. Ellie is a great listener and she is not afraid to be assertive when she has a good idea, which is quite often.  Ellie has completed a lot of work this year which will be displayed at “The Night with the Arts”.

Complete with little green army men, a beauty pageant, and warring narrators, this is The Iliad as you've never seen it before. Two narrators have a blast recreating Homer's quintessential epic myth at a rapid pace and in wildly varying styles. This side-splitting parody is both hysterical and historical -- the perfect opportunity to laugh while you learn! Creation myths such as Pandora's Box and Cronos and the Titans jostle for space with other famous myths like Jason and the Argonauts (the original Super Friends). This fast-paced, free-wheeling play is wild, silly, and a complete blast for all ages.

PARENTS WHO HOST - LOSE THE MOST
The staff and Board for the Triad Local School District value the safety and well being of our students very much. As we head into the spring and summer season there are often more opportunities for our student to be exposed to situations that may involved the underage use of alcohol. This is a something that puts our students at risk for many reasons. We have partnered with the Champaign County Sheriff and the Prosecutor to promote the 2011 "Parents who Host Lose the Most" campaign. Please take the time to review the information provided by the campaign organizers.

IT IS SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK! (Click here for more information) Rolling Bus

"Be Aware - Know the Danger Zone!"

This week is National School Bus Safety Week (October 17-21). This special week commemorates the safe service that school buses provide to families, as we provide one of the safest modes of transportation for our children.

The safe transportation of students to and from school is a shared responsibility between the transportation department, schools, bus drivers, parents, students and motorists...in our community.

This year's theme, "Be Aware - Know the Danger Zone!" highlights the importance of keeping children safe outside of the school bus, especially when they are boarding or exiting the school bus.
